The ROYAL BLACKHEATH – BOLLINGER CHAMPAGNE
FOURSOMES INVITATIONAL CHALLENGE 2010

Our year of celebrations in 2008 led us on to the thought of creating a golfing event that would foster the tradition of Foursomes golf which, sadly, is becoming less and less played.  Thinking back to the original Grand Challenge Match of 1857 held at St Andrews (when Royal Blackheath emerged the victors), we decided in 2009 to launch a Foursomes Invitational Challenge.   Our wish was to create a fixture that will strengthen the appeal (including the social side) of the great game of Foursomes golf.  The success  of previous years has encouraged us to continue.

This will be a 36-hole medal competition to be competed for by four representatives of each invited Club or Society.  The field will be restricted to 20 teams.  Each team will field a designated Scratch pair and designated Handicap pair.  The aggregate medal score of the Scratch and Handicap pairs will be the score for the Club, with the lowest score winning the Trophy .  The Trophy will be retained in our Museum and the Winners will receive Silver Medals.

Since the social element of Foursomes is fundamental to its appeal, it is to be hoped that the Clubs and Societies participating will include in one of their pairings those who will be officials or past officials (Captain, Past Captain, Secretary).
